Coinbase adds Ripple’s RLUSD across exchange, app and Prime

Coinbase has added Ripple USD (RLUSD) to Coinbase Exchange, its retail app and Coinbase Prime, giving customers in supported regions another dollar stablecoin to trade and move. The expansion brings RLUSD to three networks, with some Coinbase services still to come.

Coinbase’s announcement says customers can deposit and withdraw RLUSD on the XRP Ledger, Base and Ethereum, and convert U.S. dollars to RLUSD at a 1:1 rate. Coinbase published the announcement on Oct. 28.

For users, RLUSD is now available across Coinbase’s retail and institutional platforms, but access depends on region and the specific service.

Where can customers use RLUSD on Coinbase?

Customers in supported regions can trade and manage RLUSD through Coinbase Exchange, the Coinbase retail app and Coinbase Prime, the company said. Deposits and withdrawals are available on the XRP Ledger, Base and Ethereum.

Ripple will provide liquidity on Base to support RLUSD use there. Coinbase has not yet extended access to its Global Exchange customers; the company says that rollout will follow and is expected to include RLUSD as collateral.

How does conversion and backing work?

Coinbase says customers can convert U.S. dollars to RLUSD one for one. Ripple’s announcement also says users can convert other supported dollar-denominated stablecoins into RLUSD at the same ratio.

Ripple describes RLUSD as redeemable for U.S. dollars and backed by reserves that include dollar deposits, short-term U.S. Treasuries and other cash equivalents. The announcement does not specify trading fees, so users should check the terms shown in their Coinbase account before making a transaction.

What does the listing change for RLUSD?

The listing expands the number of Coinbase services where RLUSD can be accessed, while making deposits and withdrawals available across three networks. Reuters reported that RLUSD launched in December 2024 and cited CoinGecko data showing its market capitalization above $2.5 billion at the time of publication.

That figure provides context for the stablecoin’s scale, but the Coinbase announcement does not promise a particular level of liquidity or trading activity on its exchange. For now, the concrete change is access: customers can hold or trade RLUSD through the listed Coinbase services and transfer it over supported networks.
