A repayment clears only when it reaches the lending market on the debt’s chain; check the token, route funds across, and budget gas before submitting.

Repay a crypto loan on the chain where the debt lives

A lending repayment must reach the chain where the debt is recorded. If your repayment funds are elsewhere, you need to move them to that chain in a form the market accepts before submitting the repay transaction.

The key detail is the market’s debt asset, not just the token’s ticker. A cross-chain swap may combine a bridge and a trade; the fuller thor swap explainer covers how that route works for BTC and ETH.

Getting the asset and chain right is what turns a wallet balance into a repayment the lending contract can recognize.

How do you check which chain the debt is on?

Open the lending position and confirm the network, market, borrowed asset and amount owed. The position is held by a contract on that network, so funds on another chain do not reduce it automatically, even if the tokens share a name or ticker.

Check the asset’s contract address or the protocol’s displayed token details, especially if the same token exists in native and bridged versions. A market may accept only the asset it lists for repayment; a similarly named version can be unusable there.

How do you move repayment funds to the right chain?

Use a route that delivers the required asset to your wallet on the debt’s chain. Depending on what you hold, that can mean bridging the same asset, or bridging and swapping into the debt token along the way.

Before confirming, review the route’s destination chain, expected output, fees and any minimum received amount. A bridge transfer and a swap can each have separate costs, and the final amount may change with price movement or slippage between quote and execution.

Keep enough of the destination chain’s native gas token to submit the repayment. The repayment asset itself usually cannot pay the network fee unless the wallet or protocol explicitly supports that arrangement.

  • Confirm the destination is the chain shown for the lending position.
  • Check that the received token is accepted by that market.
  • Compare the quoted output with the amount you need to repay.
  • Leave a separate balance for destination-chain gas.

What should you check before submitting repayment?

Once the funds arrive, reconnect to the lending market on the correct chain and check the live amount owed. Interest can accrue, so a balance copied before the transfer may no longer match the full repayment amount.

Choose full repayment only if the available balance covers the amount shown and the transaction fee. If you repay less, the remaining debt stays open; check the updated position afterward to confirm the amount due and how the change affects your collateral position.

For a large or unfamiliar route, a small test transfer can show whether the destination wallet receives the expected asset, though it adds another transaction fee. The practical rule is simple: verify chain, token and final amount at the lending interface before you press repay.
